2013 REGIONAL YOUTH JUSTICE & LEADERSHIP EXHIBITION
Saturday, April 27, 2013
11:00am - 4:00pm
Wayne State University Student Center
5221 Gullen Mall
Detroit, MI 48202
You are invited to the 2013 Regional Youth Justice & Leadership Exhibition!
The exhibition will feature the hard work Michigan’s Youth have been doing all year to learn about the social justice issues that are important to them. They have been identifying and implementing the strategies that work in their community to address these issues, and they would like to share that work with you.
Join our Regional Youth Interns, participants in our Regional Youth Justice Consortium, and our peers and friends as we spend the day exploring Youth exhibit tables, participating in workshops designed by youth, watching youth produced films, and listening to open mic performances.
Registration is available for individual Youth, individual adults, or as a school/community group. All groups must have at least one Adult Ally.
Youth in Michigan can contribute to the event in one of the following ways:
1. Submit a workshop proposal
2. Submit a film
3. Showcase work at an Exhibit Table
4. An Open Mic performance
All submissions will be reviewed by the Youth Peer Review Committee and to determine finalists. If you are interested, please email jbest@miroundtable.org or indicate your interest on your registration form.
DETROIT FUTURE YOUTH CURRICULUM MIXTAPE ON SALE NOW!
The Michigan Roundtable’s Youth Program is a proud member of the Detroit Future Youth Network. DFY is a network of 12 Detroit youth programs that focus on social justice based education and multimedia creation, who are using digital media to transform ourselves and our communities. Our mission is to build a Detroit youth network. Our vision is to grow a youth led movement in Detroit. Network members share a commitment to authentic youth-leadership development that fosters the future creators, problem-solvers and social change-makers our city needs.
Over the past year, the DFY Network has collectively developed our first ever Curriculum Mixtape through a process involving a series of curriculum building and facilitation trainings. The Curriculum Mixtape is a compilation of workshops and media developed by each of the 12 DFY partner organizations. The USB Mixtape highlights media created by youth, with a curriculum book of accompanying lesson plans that were co-designed by youth leaders and their adult allies. The workshops and media contained on the Mixtape cover a wide range of issues and skills from a youth-led, media based, and social justice movement perspective.
To purchase and learn more about the Curriculum Mixtape, visit mixtape.detroitfuture.org or email youth@detroitfuture.org. Proceeds from the Curriculum Mixtape support the work of these 12 fantastic youth organizations, including the Michigan Roundtable’s youth program.
